Fiber mascaras have been around for a while. I remember an article in O Magazine in 2009, giving some credit to higher end cosmetics, but the drugstores didn’t really catch on to the trend until recently. Fiber mascaras basically build up your lashes. They can help with length and volume. They are the perfect choice for anyone who needs a little bit of help with their lashes, but isn’t quite ready for lash extensions.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am still on the hunt for THE perfect mascara. I have tiny, lifeless lashes that need some help, in a major way! The next mascara up for review? Maybelline’s Illegal Length Mascara. This mascara features fiber extensions and promises no flakes and very dramatic, long lashes.
The Illegal Lengths Mascara features a Fiber-Fix brush and sealing formula that work together to optimize with 4MM fiber extensions for dramatically longer lashes. The Fiber brush will reach each lash from different angles to give you the best product placement, while the sealing formula will stretch the lashes and seal the fibers to each lash without flaking or breaking.
My conclusion? The mascara did an ok job. It still didn’t give me killer long lashes, but it did help give me longer lashes than I had before I used it. The brush was nice for applying and I felt that it did coat every lash evenly. I didn’t have any issues with fiber fall out and it seemed to stay on my lashes nicely all night. It seemed easier than most fiber mascaras to remove. I just used an oil–free makeup remover. The key to removing this type of product is to NOT rub your eyes like crazy. Soak a cotton pad, apply it to the eye area and let it sit there for a minute before you start gently wiping away the product.
This mascara is available in three shades (I purchased Blackest Black), but no waterproof formula that I know of. This can be purchased anywhere Maybelline products can be purchased.
