I’m finally sharing my Prequel skincare review! I’ve talked about this on social media, but over the past few months, I’ve been slowly refreshing my skincare routine—simplifying where I can, replacing empty products, and really focusing on products that support my skin rather than overwhelm it. As someone with sensitive skin, I’ve learned that less is often more… but that “less” still needs to work.
That’s when Prequel popped up on my radar. I kept seeing their name on social media and in skincare communities I trust, and I was instantly intrigued. Dermatologist-founded? Affordable? Skin barrier–focused? Say no more. I picked up a few products to try, and let me tell you, I get the hype.

What Makes Prequel Stand Out
There are a lot of skincare brands out there, but Prequel has managed to carve out a unique space that’s both science-backed and totally accessible. Here’s what stood out to me right away:
Dermatologist-founded – Dr. Samantha Ellis founded this brand. She’s a cosmetic and medical dermatologist. She created Prequel with formulas that are designed with real skin concerns in mind, not just trends. We all know how quickly trends come and go….
Skin barrier focused – Every product is gentle, hydrating, and made to support long-term skin health. Skin barrier health is so important to me.
Affordable price points – It’s rare to find skincare this good that doesn’t break the bank. I honestly question how they can make this so affordable, yet so good.
Minimal, effective formulas – No extras, no unnecessary fragrance—just what your skin needs.
Beautiful, functional packaging – Okay yes, I’m a sucker for good branding. But it’s also easy to use and shelfie-worthy.
What I’ve Tried and Loved
I started small with Prequel—just one or two products to see how my skin would react—and spoiler: it reacted really well. I’ve since added more to my routine, and honestly? I can’t stop recommending them.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Gleanser
Let’s start with the product that kicked it all off for me. The Gleanser is a gentle, creamy cleanser that leaves my skin feeling clean but never stripped. It’s the kind of cleanser that works beautifully in both the morning and evening (especially as a second cleanse). It’s one of the few cleansers I keep repurchasing—and if you have sensitive skin, you’ll understand how rare that is.
I even got my husband hooked on it!
Multi-Quench Hydration Serum
This serum is like a big glass of water for your skin. It absorbs quickly, layers well under other products, and immediately gives me that fresh, plump feeling. I use it both morning and night, and it’s become a staple in my routine. I love this product so much.
Lucent-C Vitamin C Serum
I was so excited to try this because vitamin C serums can be tricky for sensitive skin types. But Lucent-C has been incredibly gentle—no irritation, no weird stickiness, just a nice glow and more even tone over time. I feel like this is one of those products that’ll stay in my routine for the long haul.
If you’ve struggled with other vitamin C formulas, I highly recommend giving this one a try.
Multi-Acid Milk Peel
I’ve used the Multi-Acid Milk Peel for a bit now. It’s definitely a little spicy on my skin, but not in a way that causes irritation or makes me feel like I can’t use it. I originally tried applying it twice a week, but I’ve found that once a week is the sweet spot for me. So far, so good—and I’m curious to see how it performs over time.
I also tried the Redness Reform and really loved it. It was calming, lightweight, and layered well with the rest of my routine. I especially noticed a difference in the redness on my cheeks—it definitely helped tone things down. I haven’t repurchased it yet (just need to place another order), but it’s absolutely going back into my rotation.
New Additions I’m Testing
Recently, Prequel sent me a super generous PR package (thank you, Prequel!) and I’m currently testing even more of their products. Right now, I’m trying out their SPFs, the Half & Half Moisturizer, and the Hand and Foot Creams. I’m giving them a proper test run and will report back soon with my thoughts. If they’re anything like the other products I’ve tried so far, I have a feeling they’re going to be good.
Since working on the edit of this post, I can tell you that my mom has been testing the Hand Cream — and she’s officially a big fan! She deals with very dry hands and said this hand cream actually lasts and keeps her skin hydrated for hours. High praise from someone who’s tried just about everything!
Over the years, I’ve learned that skincare doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective — and Prequel really gets that. Their products are smart, gentle, and thoughtful, and they’ve earned a permanent spot in my routine. I’m excited to keep exploring their line and sharing more updates with you soon!
You can find Prequel products online or in stores at Target.
